Okay to keep our series going; Here are two more mistakes that we make that makes us targets.

- Dark Property is very attractive. 90% of the intruders will not enter a well lit residence.
TARGET: Low wattage bulds in outdoor lights, no motion sensor lights on a timer, no lights on other outdoor buildings, such as garages.
SOLUTION: Survey your property and put quality and effective lighting to the home property.

- Most burglars look for something worth stealing.
TARGET: Making valuables visible from the outside the home, like lawn movers, bikes, and even cars. Leaving your garage doors open. leaving shades or curtains open.
SOLUTION: Get in the habit of closing your shades or blinds every night and when you arent at home.

See ya next time... When I will give you two more mistakes we make. Have a great weekend.

12 Mistakes That Make Your Home A Target For Burgars

I know we have talked about this before but I never get tired ot educating my customers and all of you are my customers. Well, that is just how I see it.

Home security started with decreasing the chances of your home being robbed. Many homes are easy targets for burglaries without the onwers realizing it. Here are a few easy things to do the increase home security before you purchase your home alarm system.

- EMPTY RESIDENCES ARE HIGH TARGETS
TARGET: Piled up newspapers, mail & flyers, as well as putting your garbage out days in advance or not putting it out at all are all signs of vacancy.
SOLUTION: Stop the newspaper when you are out of town and have a neighbor or friends pick up your mail.

- EASY ESCAPE IS IMPORTANT FOR A BURGLAR
TARGET: overgrown bushes and trees close to your home allow burglar to hide plus add leverage to higher windows. Unsecured doors...sliding doors, garage doors, patio doors. give the burglar opportunity for entrance into your home.
SOLUTION: Make sure all scrubs are trimmed bvack and not covering windows, Install strong dead bolt locks on doors and fixed weak doors and windows.

Well let's start there and look out for the part II of this topic.
Have a great summer!!

Home Crimes - General Part I

I was on the golf course the other day and we got to talking about Home crimes. People are funny to me, they were saying that " oh crime doesn't happen in my neighborhood." or " my neighborhood is quiet and secure." When people say things like this I just laugh cause I know better.

According to the FBI, a burglary occurrs somewhere in the US every 15.4 seconds. By definition, the crime that occurs when we are not at home. However, becoming burglary victim can leave a family feeling helpless, violated and vulnerable.
Let me try to shed some light on who an why this type of crime is committed.

Most of the time these crimes are done during daytime hours when people are at school and work or even vacation. The summer months are the hottest for this crime (July and August) and February is the less. These crimes are done by young males under 25 years old looking for small expensive items that can be quickly turned into cash. The items of choice are: cash, jewerly, guns, watches, laptops, computer, vcr/dvd players. The thought behind this is that quick cash is needed for drugs.

We will talk more on this subject again. Check us out :w ww.mynewalarm.com

Pets and Home Alarm

My daughter wants a puppy...now we have a dog now that pretty much stays out of the way. He is an older dog.

But cause she is wanting a puppy it made me think about the security system I have in place. I know several of our customers will only put motion senosrs in specific areas or some have PIR Detectors. The Pet PIR Detectors are designed to scan higher in the room so your pet will be able to move freely around the home. It is not just a higher scan but it is designed to detect a certain body mass.

Youknow pets are the highest cause of false alarms. There is also the Pet-immune motion detector,of course, it does the same register the height of you pet and scans above that level.

Summer Vacation Part 2

I was scheduling my family's summer vacation. We own a summer place in Florida. I was talking to the people that assistance me with the upkeep and she was saying that I didnt have an home security system on this property. I was shocked at myself because I was sure that I had an alarm installer there.

I think the point is even your summer vacation homes must have security too. I immediately call LOCKTITE and placed the order.

Here is what I got:
2 keypads
5 window closures
4 smoke detectors

All valued at $850 but it was $99 installation cost.

Battery check...1 2 3

Happy Memorial Day.

I know there was a not of cookouts and parties. Families getting together. We all forget the fact that our home alarm system will need a battery check. I would siggest you do this every 3 months. This is not the responsiblity of your monitoring company. This is your responsiblity to handle. Many people forget this small, yet important detail. Many times people forget the check the battery and it will go dead then something will happen and they blame their monitoring company. You really have to check these things... every 3months.

A neat way to teach home safety is to assign this task to one of your kids. Every 3 months they go and check all smoke detector and keypads batteries.
